Where can I find the Actions to remerge them?

Beitrag von greenmorpher »

I've made a mistake I've made before -- in getting the Tone Mapping actions on board, I "loaded" instead of "merging" them. When I loaded, all the existing actions disappeared. Where can I find them to get them back?

PL 15, OS X.6.4

Cheers, Geoff

I, too, have encountered this problem. Another example of the English version of the Help file assuming too much and failing to give clear instructions.

You're running on a Mac, but I would assume the location would be similar to Windows. In Windows 7, within the Program folder, there's a subfolder called "Defaults." There I find Actions.Actions (20 kb) and DefaultActions.actions (2 kb).

I've started putting new actions in a separate folder -- Documents>PhotoLine -- to make certain I don't lose them when I do an update of the software, and to simplify the restoration process when I forget and use "Load" instead of "Merge."

On a Mac, your (set of) actions is stored in your user folder, in Library -> Preferences -> Actions.actions. The only way of restoring your previous set of actions would be to restore this file from a recent backup.

The default set of actions is not as easily accessible as under Windows. Select the PL application in the Finder, then choose "Show Package Contents" from the context menu. Open Contents -> Resources -> Defaults, then copy the file "Actions.actions" from there to the desktop, say. You can then load this set of actions.

In case you accidentally load an action, instead of merging (and it happens to me on a more or less regular basis :) ), the best solution is to force-quit PL (make sure you have saved all your PL documents before doing so ) This keeps PL from saving the changed set of actions to disk. Once you re-start PL, the original actions should be back.

Cheers,

Burkhard.

Many thanks, Bob and Burkhardt. Ah, the prefs. That's the one. Damn things don't show up in a search, oddly. And the force quit trick. Yes -- had never thought that one through.

You're dead right about saving the actions to a separate folder, Bob. I thought I did that last time, but I must have been short circuited ...

Actually, the manual doesn't explain clearly the difference between merge and load. Should be "Load new set", perhaps, and a warning should come up "If you load the new set it will replace you existing set". And rather than "Merge" it should be "Add new action(s) to set".

And in addition, "Load new ..." should have a "Reload default actions" option which should automatically select the default actions.

Cheers, Geoff
