Use polyline (not filled) as cut through mask

Is it possible to use not closed (not filled) vector line or polyline as mask? I can see PL ignores vector visible properties and only takes into consideration the vector shape when promoting vector layer into some other layer's mask. Do I need to convert vector layer into bitmap if I want to use ? If so, can I make some "bitmap virtual copy" of vector layer then? I don't want to convert this layer to bitmap every time I make changes.

What I want to achieve is to cut the blue shape out of red shape:

As far as I know, this is the only way to do this, because vector masks don't take the line width into consideration.

Yes, just put your vector shape into a group and check "Draw isolated" in the group's Attribute Panel.

In your case, just check "Draw isolated" in the group, and make sure the round shape is white and the check mark is black.
