The postings about resetting the user interface to default (http://www.pl32.com/forum3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3443) prompted me to toss out this idea for discussion:

Would current PhotoLine users benefit from having several color scheme options for the user interface? Would the feature make PL more attractive to potential new customers?

Most of the major photo editors and raw developers use a darker interface than PhotoLine. Even Photoshop CS6 switched to a darker interface. Here are some examples:

Research supports the idea of using a dark background around an image that's being manipulated. (Back in my pre-retirement days when I taught video production, there was a reason we worked in a dark room to edit video images!)

But dark vs. light has been a controversial subject for users of photo editing software. The Elements example included is lighter than the previous version, in part due to user complaints. PSPX5 offers four color schemes to satisfy its customers.

So, would it be of benefit if PhotoLine offered options?

Well, no-one will give you the same answer here - it depends a lot on individual preferences, I think. The best approach would be to let the user decide for themselves: offer an option to darken the interface in steps of ~15%~20%, and have the icons rendered in negative.
Some icons would have to be slightly adjusted for this to work properly.

The default icon colours should then be changed to the greyscale ones.

At the moment I work with a slightly darker interface due to the beta version's option to change the overall interface background colour - bit of an accident, but I'm very happy with this, since the default PL interface is too bright for my taste. So I am keeping it

Totally agree. Time to get a gray/black skin/theme. Perhaps even allow a skinnable interface as suggested?
