Re: How to use with external scaling plugins?
Google says that the current version is compatible with 64Bit, older versions need 32Bit. So you could check if the plugin appears in the 32Bit version of PL.ollie hat geschrieben:1. How to use with external scaling plugins?

Then you could look for the .8bf-file and check if this path is included in the paths at "filter > manage plugins"
Afaik none, but maybe someone else knows about a difference...ollie hat geschrieben:2. whats the difference bw saving to pdf and exporting to pdf?

Re: How to use with external scaling plugins?
I don't think that there's a difference in the pdf file, either.Hoogo hat geschrieben:Afaik none, but maybe someone else knows about a difference...ollie hat geschrieben:2. whats the difference bw saving to pdf and exporting to pdf?
However, there is a general difference between exporting and saving. If you export the file, a copy of the file is saved but the file which you continue to work with will still have the original format (e.g., PLD). Next time you save the file, it will be saved in the original format (e.g. PLD). If you save the file as pdf (using Save/Save as), then PL will remember that your file is a PDF and will save it as a PDF (possibly with a warning that some content cannot be saved as pdf and will be lost).
Cheers
Burkhard.

Re: How to use with external scaling plugins?
I don't believe BenVista's PhotoZoom is compatible with PhotoLine. The last two versions were sold as stand-alone packages with Photoshop automation plugins. PhotoLine won't run those.ollie hat geschrieben:1. How to use with external scaling plugins?

The BenVista FAQ answers questions about running PhotoZoom with several different programs, but PhotoLine is not among them. http://www.benvista.com/faq

Re: How to use with external scaling plugins?
So long as you just save your file as PLD or whatever, then "save as" to PDF, you retain the original file, of course.bkh hat geschrieben:I don't think that there's a difference in the pdf file, either.Hoogo hat geschrieben:Afaik none, but maybe someone else knows about a difference...ollie hat geschrieben:2. whats the difference bw saving to pdf and exporting to pdf?

Re: How to use with external scaling plugins?
Ollie, I have never compared them. I would suggest you download a trial copy of each and do a test. Generally, these enlargement plugins or stand-alones are designed for special purposes in advertising and are expensive.ollie hat geschrieben:

The Graphics Software section at About.com has a page with a brief description of the top enlargement apps.

I hope this helps.

Re: How to use with external scaling plugins?
PL only has general purpose resampling algorithms, including Lanczos 8 which is next-to-perfect from a theoretical point of view. It doesn't have upscaling algorithms which add artefacts to simulate additional sharpness, though.ollie hat geschrieben:PS>How does PL internal scaler compare to photozoom's?
So imo PL's internal algorithms are fine for downscaling and moderate upscaling.
In the (hopefully) rare case when you have to drastically upscale an image, you could use photozoom as an external program and do the scaling there. Other PS plugins might work – usually, you can download a trial version. It could be that scaling plugins provide problems because they change the layer size while the majority of PS plugins just change an image layer in place.

Re: How to use with external scaling plugins?
The example with the cat shows the bad behaviour of algorithms with some kind of edge detection: They look unnaturally painted, similar to the "adaptive soften" or "denoise" filters of PL. It depends on the content if the effect looks fine or bad. Its fine for more graphic pictures with clear edges, but for more real photos I prefer Lanczos. "image Analyzer" offers some plugins for fractal interpolation that give quite natural results for photos, but its Windows only, and you usually don't know what all the sliders mean, you have to play and check the results.

Smilla Image Enlarger.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/imageen ... rce=navbar
Standalone, PC only. Does a pretty good job if one alters the presets.

There's a Mac version as well. However, I don't think it offers you anything you can't do within PL.mwenz hat geschrieben:Smilla Image Enlarger.

Re: How to use with external scaling plugins?
I think that in most my cases, Smilla has done a better job. Your experience may/evidently be different than mine.
Options are good. Smilla is just an option.
Take care, Mike
