Huge size images

Beitrag von Mark_T »

First of all, I just found about the new version, and of course, congrats to the entire team.
I`m not a Photoline customer (yet) but I`m really interested in Photoshop alternatives, and for me, Photoline is definitely a very strong candidate. I tried some time ago (maybe 6 months) photoline with a very specific purpose: to manipulate huge size images. Photoshop has a limit of 300.000 pixels wide. For handling the cache on disk, hardware wise it`s not a problem nowadays with a few big SSDs in Raid0 setup. At least for Photoshop. My question is: is it Photoline capable to handle such big images. I would greatly appreciate a positive answer, even for bigger images than 512k x 512K pixels.
If the answer is no, would it be possible in future to make it happen?
Thanks in advance for your answer.

I'm also interested in the answer. To put the question another way -- what is the file size limitation of PhotoLine?
Ken

The current internal limitation is 256k-Pixel, but in practice you can't edit pictures with this size, because it would be too slow. An RGB image with 256kx256k pixels and 8 bit depth needs 192 GB of memory. Many operations need twice the size of the image, resulting in 384 GB. External memory is much too slow to handle that properly.

Thanks for that info. Good to know that a panorama of about 25K px width will be OK.

Thanks for the quick answer.
The purpose for me is just to stitch big images, not edit them. I was able to do close to 300k images in photoshop, but for more than that I got a messsage that it doesn`t go further than 300k. I was hopping that with some HDD cache method this can be possible.
Again, thanks for your answer.
