Font question

Can anyone help me understand this font issue please?

I'm trying to make an ad using Trebuhet MS for some of the text. The customer wants the bold removing from a line of text. When I remove it (by clicking on the 'B' symbol in the type panel), it appears to have no effect, but the 'B' symbol becomes 'unhighlighted'. Then I can't re-highlight the 'B' in the type panel.

In a different test document, the same occurs.

Looking at my list of fonts in my ancient Photoline on my ancient Mac (see sig), I only see Trebuhet MS, whereas if I open an ancient Word I see Trebuhet MS, Trebuhet MS Bold, Trebuhet MS Bold Italic and Trebuhet MS Italic. I don't know if this is relevant.

I got round this problem by pasting the text into Text Edit, changing the bits required to plain text, then creating new text layers in PL and pasting it in, but seems a bit of a long way round, doesn't it? Am I doing something wrong?

I encounter the same thing sometimes. Not every font seems to do this.

There seems to be a similar problem here, too (OS X 10.9.2, PL 18.02). If I use the text tool to select "normal" (or part of it) in the attached document, I can't use the B and I buttons in the tool setting. However, I can use "Layout -> Text -> Choose Font …" to switch to bold text.

In any case, the font info (in Font Book) is

Kind OpenType TrueType
Version Version 5.00x
Location /Library/Fonts/Trebuchet MS.ttf
Unique name Microsoft Trebuchet
Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation

and similarly for the bold, italic and bold italic variants. Font check by Font Book doesn't show any problems. Times New Roman, which has similar OpenTyoe TrueType fonts seems not to show the problem. EDIT: Same problem with Times New Roman, but only after I save the document as a PLD file and reopen it.
