The Ultimate Pen Sketch action (part 1)

OK, for all you control freaks , this action provides the ultimate flexibility and precision for creating a pen sketch effect.

The action will first pause at the Grey Mixer step to let you adjust the conversion. Then it will pause at the High Pass step to allow you to set the High Pass effect -- you'll want to increase the "Size" setting until you just begin to see some light areas, but not too much:

Then the action will pause at the final Threshold step where you can refine the amount of detail in the line work.

You'll wind up with several layers organized into groups:

By adjusting the High Pass "Intensity" setting in the "Base" Group, you can vary the amount of filling in the effect. For example, with the "Intensity" setting at 100%, you'll get something like this:

Notice how the sketch follows the edges without filling in areas such as her eyes and the background.

If you change the High Pass "Intensity" setting in the "Base" Group to 80%, you'll get the dark solid colour areas filled in:

The High Pass settings in the "Details" Group allows you to further refine those effects.
