Create Formats With Guides

Beitrag von evren »

I would like to add new document types on "create new document" dialog.
I need to add "A3+" page and "3 fold A4" page for catalog works. And also I'd like to add each page types with my own guide settings.
This leds me in need to create (or manuplate) plnewdoc type of file.

How can I create or change this file type?
Thanks for anyone gone help.

Have you tried creating empty documents for the formats you want and saving them as a Preset in the New Document dialog?

In addition, you'll have to create a guides preset (which you can then choose in the "New Doucment" dialogue before saving/updating the new preset).

Exactly, empty documents with own guide settings

I'm not intrested in current guide presets. They cover just a few options and for me also out of sense. I'm hust trying to open default formats with guides on
For exaple en each type, 1 cm from all sides and a middle guide to indicate center (a guide not text flow)
And a new format type which covers 3 pieces of A4 page locates side by side. And with margin and center guides in each (for catalog works etc.)
And sure an A3+ format...

Anyone knows how to manuplate that plnewdoc file?
I tried to manuplate it directly over a text editor but PL didn't liked my modifications :) (saved in ANSI, Unicode, Little endian etc. No hope)

You could create a document template.

To create a template, first locate your preferences folder. This is either your PhotoLineSettings folder or "~/Library/Preferences/PhotoLine" on Mac OS. On Windows it should be something like "C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\PhotoLine" (XP) or "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\PhotoLine" (Windows 7). Here you create a folder named "Templates". After a restart of PhotoLine all PLD files inside this folder will be listed as menu commands at "File > New".

Thanks for help. But I'm already using Templates option. I have many things there. I just would like to learn if it is possible to manuplate default options also. Beause my templates folder is already bloated with many format.

All the templates that you find in the menu "File > New" are stored as normal .pld-files in the folder "...PhotoLine\Defaults\Templates" (on windows). You can just change them as you can add new files to them.

That's what I thought. So you'll have to create your own guide presets (set up your guides, then save the preset in the Guides panel), so you can use your own guide presets within the "New Document" dialog (and save them as part of your Document presets.

I suggest you do the following.

1) Enter the measurements for 3 pcs of A4 in the "New Document" panel, set up colour space/columns as required. Before you create the document, make sure you save the settings as a preset (3xA4, for example),

2) Add the guides, as required. Save the set of guides as a guide preset (as "3xA4 Guides", for example).

3) Go to "New Document" again, select the "3xA4" preset, select the "3xA4 Guides" preset, then go to "Edit presets" again and update "3xA4 Guides"

From now on, your 3xA4 preset will create a new document together with your custom guides.

Just use the Presets, they will write the settings to the .plnewdoc file. It's a binary file, using a text editor will not work.
