Hi all,
There is something that has been "bothering" me for long...
If I have a set of layers but the top most is a small part and I make an adjustment layer, this comes with a mask applied with the size of that top most layer and I can´t find a way to tell to the Adjustment layer to ignore this and be created by the document size.
And of course if I deselect the layer I can´t create an adjustment layer.
Here is a screenshot of what I mean.
Cheers,
Juan

Re: Adjustment layer size
If you need a full size adjistment layer, why don't you just make your background layer active, create the adjustment layer and bring it to the top of your layer stack?

Re: Adjustment layer size
Thanks, yes I can do that, but workflow wise is not good.
If you have (like I do) huge amount of layers, going to the background one, create, clikc ok, move to top, open the adjustment layer to make the right corrections is not so comfortable.
Cheers,
Juan

Re: Adjustment layer size
Ola Juan
I am intrigued about why you would want a document sized adjustment layer when you are going to make an adjustment only to a layer which is much smaller than the full document size.
Do you mind explaining for me, please?
Cheers, geoff

Re: Adjustment layer size
Hola Geoff
Of course, no problem, here is a screenshot of one project (and the list continues).
I mainly do the first color correction for the compositing elements, then I add new elements that can´t belong to the main element and then I add another set of correction for the whole picture, so having at the top most this parts that doesn´t has the same size than the document and at the moment to create new adjustment layers, this reads the active layer size, which is not convenient all the time.
So what I was thinking is that if any layer is selected then the new adjustment layer will be created with the document size. Cheers,
Juan

Re: Adjustment layer size
Hello Juan,
I was just dealing with this issue recently...
Can you use Layout>Image>Bring to Document Size on your adjustment layer? Or, could you switch to Document mode which doesn't care about the size of the background layer?
Just a couple of thoughts.
Best regards,
AlanH

For the first option, yes a good idea, maybe I need to make an action in order to fill the whole layer with white.
For the second, I just tried your suggestion and it works... but I´m afraid about the color depth since I work exclusively in 32-bit and I don´t know if document mode doesn´t affect this.
What would be great (second thought) is that when you call an adjustment layer, in the adjustment window next to the Preview and Group with previous layer have another button called: Use document size. Using this button will ignore the selected layer to avoid any mask. Cheers,
Juan

Re: Adjustment layer size
This works, but fills the new area with black. Since I sometimes have the same problem as Julian, I've created an action which fills the remaining space with white, retaining the content of the (mask) layer. I've attached it – maybe it proves useful …Alan9940 hat geschrieben:Can you use Layout>Image>Bring to Document Size on your adjustment layer?
Adjustment layers will still be the size of the current layer – worse, there's no background layer which you can select to create a full sized adjustment layer (which is what I usually do to work around the problem, if the background layer is within reach.Alan9940 hat geschrieben:Or, could you switch to Document mode which doesn't care about the size of the background layer?
I think that this would be the cleanest solution not sure about the amount of work involved, though. (Would we want it to enlarge the layer only, or do we want a button which can also be used to reduce the layer size? The latter may, of course, destroy part of the layer if used accidentally).Juan hat geschrieben:What would be great (second thought) is that when you call an adjustment layer, in the adjustment window next to the Preview and Group with previous layer have another button called: Use document size. That´s true, I don´t know how much coding this would need, but would be a real time saving, I think that could read the document size, if the layer that is active is bigger than the document this will be ignore and create it only following the document size.
Thank you so much for the action, it works perfect.
Cheers
Juan

Re: Adjustment layer size
I had similar problems... Fear no more!
Currently PhotoLine has two adjustment layer "systems"...
...and I was amazed when discoverd this:

I`m still new, but I hope it helped.
P.S. PL is full of surprises

Re: Adjustment layer size
Ha, that also works quite well - slightly different workflow by going through the adjusment layer panel. What I like about this approach is that we can use any greyscale mask as a base.kopias hat geschrieben:I had similar problems... Fear no more!
