Version 18.53 issue on Mac

I downloaded and installed 18.53 on my Mac this morning and found some very odd behavior. I have a number of external editors defined in PL (Dxo's ViewPoint 2, PhotoNinja, Photoshop Elements, Photoshop CC and some others) which I use from time to time. I have not had any real problem using these with 18.52 but found some calls no longer work in sequence on 18.53. I had not removed 18.52 from my system so I did some checking about what is going on. Here is what I found.

I took the following sequence of actions on both 18.52 and 18.53: (1) Load a raw image with no specified action. (2) Called Dxo ViewPoint 2 to correct some image distortion. The call was defined to pass a Tiff and automatically combine any layers. (3) Saved the modified image from ViewPoint 2 and exited from that app. (4) After PL loads the modified image call Elements to do some selection work. Here is what happened.

Step 1 - PL acted normally,
Step 2 - PL properly created the temp file and called ViewPoint 2 which properly loaded the tiff image,
Step 3 - ViewPoint 2 saved the tiff and exited properly,
Step 4 - PL reloaded the image properly, created a new temp file (with a new name) and called ViewPoint 2 which properly loaded the tiff image.

Step 4 - PL reloaded the image properly but would not Elements. No new temp file was created (I looked at the temp file folder) and Elements never started. Repeated attempt stop call Elements all failed. So did attempts to call Photoshop, PhotoNinja and ViewPoint 2 again.

In fact, from that point on I could not call any other configured editor. I could call plugins, but not any external editors. Repeating the sequence with 18.53 (that is, exiting, restarting and going through all of the above steps) repeated the problem exactly. Switching back to 18.52 solved the problem.

In an effort to figure out what was happening I tried calling other external editors first. The problem, although repeatable with the above steps, did not occur if I called another editor first. That is, if I first called Photoshop an an external editor, then called ViewPoint 2 I could then call a third external editor without any problem. This all seems very strange to me and I am curious as to whether or not other users have seen anything like this.

I think I am returning to 18.52.
