Frequency separation

Hi,
I'm discovering this software and I'd like to know if there's an equivalent to photoshop frequency separation function as I couldn't find it...

Hi,

I don't know about a special Photoshop function for it.
But there should be an action (view > panels > action) in Photoline to split a picture into 3 frequencies, based on Gaussian blur function.

Hi Fabien,
the frequency separation in PS usualy is made by "image/add image"-function.
This is based on 3 layers, background, color(blur) and structure layer(high pass).

In Photoline you can duplicate the backgroundlayer twice.
The first copy (colors) blend with a blur, so you cannot see structures anymore.
The second copy (structures) you should blend with the high pass filter an invert this one.
The values for blur AND the high pass structure MUST be the same.
Now group the two copies.
If you did all right, make the group invisible, so you only can see the background layer.
You should now see NO differences.
Now you can work on the colors AND separately on the structures.

This one I did with PhotoLine and the "Frequency separation" as mentioned.
This is a raw retouch.
The originals look far better.

The Frequency action included in PL (that Hoogo mentioned) works very well.

Usage:

• To remove blemishes, discoloration and even out tones, use the Remove Brush on the blurred image on the colour layer.
• To remove scars, etc., use the Painting tool set to 50% gray on one of the other layers (usually the middle layer).

You can toggle the visibility of each of the top two layers to determine which of them holds the detail that you want to remove.

I've tried the action in PL, but it didn't do what I wanted.
BTW, there are a lot of ways to make this thing done.
Feel free to show us your way.

The action does basically what you describe, but with 3 instead of 2 frequencies.
Meanwhile it became more common to use "adaptive soften" (or the PS counterpart) or Denoisers instead of Gaussian blur. It's not a frequency separation a mathematician would like to see, but more practical. But it also takes some more steps to create the topmost layer, I had the receipt for that somewhere, but it's gone, I have to rethink that...
