Change Document Size - Proportional ?

Beitrag von kevjon »

Hi

Say I have a picture that is 2882 px wide x 1178 pix high

and I want to make it 1024 px wide and have it automatically keep the height proportional.

Photoline doesn't have that option in change document size ?

I guess you want to scale (not crop) the document? In that case, "Scale Document …" would be the right command. Change to "Width" mode and set it to 1024, then the height will be adjusted accordingly. (If you really want to crop the document, you might use the formula mode, enter "1024px" as the width, and 1024px*h/w as the height.)

Cheers

Burkhard.

Thanks Burkhard

Its not obvious which tool or menu option to use as there is document size, layer size and many sub options for each but none of them seem to keep the document/layer dimensions proportional like in other programs.

So thanks for scale document tip.

Both the "Scale Document" and "Scale Layer" commands offer proportional scaling with all sub options (manually with formulas). The difference with most other image editors is that the "layer size" in Photoline can be a different size than the document/image size.

Layer or document size is the "canvas" size which will not scale anything: only reduce or add to the canvas. Scaling a layer or document equates to the "image size" option in most other applications (for example, Photoshop). It is this difference in terminology that can be confusing for anyone making the switch to Photoline.

"Document Size" --> Canvas Size
"Layer Size" --> Layer Canvas Size
"Scale Document" --> Scale Image Size (proportional options available)
"Scale Layer" --> Scale Layer Size (proportional options available)

By the way, another method to scale proportionally is to change the "size" or the scaling in the layer properties (this can be "fixed" by right-mouse clicking the word "Scaling". "Size" in the layer properties can be confusing: to me a better term here would have been layer "dimensions", and not size (which is meant as "canvas" generally in Photoline).

And there is more: dragging the thumbnail in the Layer Size and Document Size dialogs allows for quick overall positioning.
