High CPU usage

Beitrag von cata »

hello
i downloaded and installed a fresh copy of PL
i noticed that PL's interface is very CPU hungry

i start PL and have the "nag screen", CPU usage is 0%
BildBild

now i close the "nag screen" and CPU usage jumps up to 50% and never gets below that level even i do nothing and just keep PL idle
BildBild

but when i start closing panels one by one, CPU usage drops down with every panel closed and when i close all panels CPU usage is 0%
BildBild

i think it is the interface bug concerning panels that causes so much CPU usage

Yes, this just cropped up. Using 19.51 here.

I have about 20% constant CPU usage, no image open. I note if I minimize PL, CPU usage drops to zero.

Bei mir sind es zwar nur 8-9% CPU Auslastung, aber das ist dafür, das Photoline nichts macht und auch noch kein Bild geladen hat schon viel, warum ist das so?

For me there are indeed only 8-9% CPU utilization, but that's why the PhotoLine does nothing and yet no image has loaded a lot, why is that?

Operatingsystem: Windows 10, Photoline 64 bit and 32 bit

thanx for the feedback guys
bad for me my PC is older than yours (10 years if not more) so the CPU consumption percentage is much higher :(

Hm, I never thought about this... but my CPU-Usage is about 20% (no image loaded but nearly all dialogs open.) If I close one dialog after the other, the CPU-Usage goes down. Perhaps I should think about a lighter dialog-setup for my old PC (Core2Quad@2.5GHz with W10/64 and 4 GB RAM and SSD.)

Not a bad idea. Here's a screenshot of my PL screen:
http://www.pl32.com/forum3/viewtopic.ph ... 273#p39677

On my Win7 x64 machine with i7 (Core2 Quad @ 2.90Ghz, 16Gb RAM and dual SSDs), the CPU usage varies between 1% and 5% and by no means are all the cores being used....

But, what does it matter, anyway? If PL is multi-threaded, then with two cores "active" and the other cores idle, the CPU usage percentage doesn't mean squat for usability, I'm thinking.

Yes, I think it can be eeeeeasily done....

Other than the fact that PL is the only application I am using that is using up 20% of the CPU when it is only just started and doing nothing, there's nothing wrong with it...

Every application I use daily idle at zero CPU cycles with nothing "happening" with the application.

Smells like a bug. Here at work I've 19.90B1, W7/64, older I3, and I've got 0%.

Latest beta, 6.3% - which drops to 3.4% when I close the colour, pattern, and texture panels. If I open all of them, the CPU usage builds up to ~10%. That is quite a lot for an inactive application on my 3.6Ghz system.

Yes, hallelujah! Thanks for letting us know.

I had downloaded B2 and tried. This was a mistake. It seemed to run fine for the first couple instances, other than the leakage still present. But then it began crashing Windows 10. I removed it, reinstalled the release version, deleted everything concerning PL from my user account and the registry. Still would crash Windows at some point. I couldn't use PL for a few days, forcing me to use PS and Photo-Paint for those days.

PS works fine, though hugely bloated and hence slower than it ought to be. But man, I cannot see how anyone uses Corel's Photo-Paint. What a pig that thing is for serious editing.
