I'm sure I can't be the only PL user who uses an Overlay layer containing mid-gray as a dodge/burn layer, and painting lighter/darker grays to dodge and burn the image below it.
While it's not a major issue, in order to do this, I currently have to create a New Layer, change the background to mid-gray, then create the layer and then change it to Overlay blend mode.
Would it be possible to add the selection of blend mode to the New Layer dialog, i.e. before layer creation, as this is a very frequent operation. It would also be valuable for creating any other layer with different blend modes in one action.
I see that photoshop uses this approach in its dodge and burn tool, and also includes a tick box for filling with 50% gray. see https://www.photoshopessentials.com/pho ... %20problem.
Many thanks,
Stevod

Why don't record an action and do all those multiple steps in one click?

Re: Suggestion: Add blend type to New Layer dialog
@shijan. Thanks for the suggestion. I have previously used a single action to add multiple layers with one click (Gray Mixer + Overlay + Adaptive Sharpen etc.), and I'm not sure why I gave that up. Looking at that again, I see there is already a Brighten/Darken action in PL that does what I suggested.
I was always a bit surprised that there was no explicit dodge/burn function in PL though, as it's such a basic function in the processing workflow.

There is also a Brighrter/Darker brush tool that do exact same as "dodge/burn" brush tool in Photoshop.
P.S. In Photoshop naming "dodge/burn" as well as tool icons always feels rather strange and not logical for me, so in my custom icons set i use more logical icons based on PhotoLine look.
