A new page button in the page mode?

Post by wmjordan »

Is it possible to add a "New Page" button to the zoom controls in the page mode?

When this button is clicked, a single new page will be inserted after the current page.
This is a little bit faster than executing the Add New Pages command which brings out a dialog.

In Options->Usage:
You can assign hotkey for "New Page" button.
You can add "New Page" button to General toolbar or any other custom toolbar.
You can add "New Page" button to Context Menu quickly opened by middle mouse scroll button.

Yes, I know that.
The "New Page" command nowadays pops up a dialog which is usually unnecessary for me. Ever more, after adding pages from that dialog, the active page will not be changed to the newly added one.

There's quite plenty of room to add a button and this just operates like adding a new tab page in modern browsers or adding a new sheet in Excel.

Click it once, a new page is created with the same size of the current page. Then the active page will be switched to the new one, so we can work on it immediately. If one page is not enough, just click that button for a some more times. That is more convenient in most cases.

I agree that this is quite odd and counter-intuitive behaviour in PhotoLine. Coming from other design software I expect these buttons to be part of the Pages panel. Like this:
layer panel.png
...but there are literally NO buttons at the bottom of that panel. None!

And this flies in the face of PhotoLine's UX design: it is inconsistent. The layer panel has these options. The guides panel, the paragraph and character styles, the Comps, Export settings and export panels, the Actions...

Except for the Pages panel! And that panel is one of the most important panels to work with when dealing with multi-page documents.

Another thing that I find extremely frustrating is the lack of drag and drop of pages to another document. Or at the very least a simple copy and paste function of pages between documents. Instead, the user is asked to SAVE a page first and then LOAD it in another document. I find this so awkward, that I just prefer to copy all the page content to another document instead.

And yes, I do agree as well that there should be an option to add a new page without that dialog popping up all the time. In the mockup above the first button should just add a new page without a dialog, and the second button should open the dialog.

Simple, effective, and consistent with the other panel behaviour in PhotoLine.
