PhotoLine and layers from a PSD file

When reading a PSD file created from another product such as Photoshop Elements or Perfect Photo Suite, PhotoLine shows the the PSD thumbnail at the top of the layer stack.

Is there a reason for displaying the Photoshop document file thumbnail as a layer?

Photoshop Elements, PaintShop Pro and PhotoPlus don't show the PSD thumbnail in the layer stack, and PL doesn't display its own PLD file thumbnail as a layer.

If display of the PSD thumbnail in layers in PhotoLine is of no importance to users, should it be removed?

One reason I like seeing the PSD thumbnail as a layer is that I can delete it before re-saving the file in another format.

PSD is a complex, widely undocumented file format. By showing the thumbnail as a layer, you can better check whether it has been imported correctly.

I understand this request, but documenting the PLD format would cost us weeks. And how many people would use this documentation? Whoever wants to handle the PLD format, has to deal with multiple pages, virtual copies, 8-, 16- 32-bit images, groups acting as layer mask/adjustment mask, and many other things. So the audience for a documentation is very, very limited.

Just as a matter of information, I note that a PSD file created by Lightroom for editing in PhotoLine does not produce a thumbnail layer when PL opens. It's only files that have been saved in Photoshop Elements and onOne's Perfect Photo Suite and then opened in PhotoLine where I see that behavior. (Of course there are likely others.)

I understand. It was simply a plea to try to keep things as open as possible. And the most important user of the documentation for the format? That would be you, and your staff, for future maintenance of the product.
