Puzzling when using Autotransparency tool

Hello folks

I first noticed this just the other day in 18.01; it continues in 18.51. (I don't use this tool much, but when I do, I really want it to work! Actually, I should use it more often; I keep forgetting it is there. )

I have a logo on a white background saved as a JPEG.

I want the background transparent.

So I apply the Autotransparency tool to the while background, set to "Fill Holes", set to less than 10% tolerance (as low as zero in my experiments).

I get transparency all right -- but far too much of it. Most of the logo disappears. it is shown here on white, but that is because I saved it as JPEG. I get transparency all right, but as you can see, most of the logo is lost.

Unchecking "Fill holes" gives me the transparency I want except that I have to shift-click in the bowls of the letters to make them transparent too.

But -- something is wrong!

Anyone else had odd experiences with this tool?

I am on Mac OS X.6.8.

You should not use "Fill Holes" on this logo, because most parts of it are "holes".

I see that as the pragmatic answer, but I can't understand how it could fill a yellow and black hole when it starts on white with 2% tolerance.

Nor can I understand that if it wipes out MOST of the logo, why it should not wipe out ALL of it.

First, PhotoLine fills the picture with "transparency". All parts that are completely surrounded by transparency are filled if you activate fill holes.
Some parts, that touch the border of the picture are not surrounded by transparency and are not removed.
